October 2010 Mission to Liberia
We are currently recruiting a team of volunteers to go to Ganta, Liberia, in West Africa, to work with our partner, the Ganta United Methodist Hospital. Both medical and non-medical volunteers are needed to perform a variety of tasks which include training hospital staff, assisting the trained health teams who visit surrounding communities, or a number of other skilled activities. This important training is crucial to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project. Contact Andrew Herrera at andrew@curamericas.org for more information on this opportunity of a lifetime!
November 2010 Mission to Guatemala
Our work in Guatemala continues as we focus on Health System Strengthening and Maternal and Child Survival. We are recruiting medical and non-medical volunteers to participate in this expedition to Guatemala. Curamericas Globals National Program Director, Dr. Mario Valdez, is the only medical doctor for the more than 66,000 people living this area. You can work with our nurses and community health workers to provide basic care, health education and outreach, vaccinations, vitamins, and other vital services to mothers and families, mostly through home visits and community meetings. Contact Andrew Herrera at andrew@curamericas.org for more information.
June 2011 Expedition to Guatemala
Students from Fayetteville Academy will participate in a Service, Learning, and Culture Exchange with our partners in Guatemala. Students will have the opportunity to assist health workers provide care to women and children while learning about the struggles and joys of health in rural Guatemala. A main activity will be the continuation of construction of a health facility (clinic, hospital, or training building) to be determined as the dates draw nearer. Cultural exchange will occur throughout the experience and will be focused during home visits as students spend time with families understanding the daily life and sharing their lives from back home with our Guatemalan friends.
May 4, 2010 is the Fayetteville Academy SGA Pig Pickin where team members will raise funds by selling fair-trade coffee from Haiti to support farmers there and hand-made crafts from Jinja Fair Trade. Currently the group is working to raise funds for the expedition and for donation to our partner, Curamericas Guatemala. Stay tuned for more information!
